Keeping your bathroom tidy and hygienic is essential for any home. But, it can be difficult to know where to start when attempting a deep clean. To simplify the process, here are five steps to thoroughly clean the bathroom and keep it sparkling.

Steps to Clean the Bathroom

Wipe Down the Surfaces

To tidy the bathroom, clean the surfaces from the top down. Begin overhead with door and window frames and clean the bathroom mirror. Wash the walls and move on to other surfaces, including the toilet tank and seat, windowsills, doorsills, and countertops. Use an appropriate cleaner for each surface type (glass cleaner for mirrors). Clean and disinfect the door knobs and light switches as well.

Empty the Cabinets and Drawers

Take everything out of the cabinets and drawers in the bathroom so you can wipe the storage areas with an all-purpose cleaner, removing accumulated dirt or dust. Before restocking the storage spaces, sort your body care products, first-aid supplies, and medications. If you have items you don’t use, throw them away to make more space and keep clutter at bay.

Clean the Bathroom: Scrub the Sink and Shower

The sink and shower are the most used fixtures in the bathroom, so they should be scrubbed down periodically to keep them looking their best. Use a non-abrasive scrubbing brush or sponge for tougher stains. Don’t overlook cleaning the area behind the faucet and around the drains. After cleaning, rinse off the bathroom surfaces with hot water to leave them streak-free and shining.

Clean the Toilet Bowl

Cleaning the toilet is one of those tasks that no one enjoys but must be done nonetheless. Start by pouring a cup of baking soda into the bowl, followed by a cup of distilled white vinegar. Let the mixture sit for 15 minutes before scrubbing the bowl with a toilet brush, then rinse with warm water. Finish by spraying an all-purpose cleaner around the inside and outside surfaces of the toilet, and wipe the area clean with a damp cloth or paper towel.

Mop the Floor Last

As you clean, dirt, dust, and debris may fall to the floor. After completing the tasks in your bathroom, remove any furniture from the room and mop to remove dirt from the flooring. Use warm water mixed with an appropriate cleaner for your floor type (wood floors may need special attention). Pay attention to corners and other hard-to-reach areas.

Allow the floors to dry before returning the furniture to its place. Use the ventilation fan to help dry the area quickly.

Keeping your bathroom looking its best isn’t difficult if you follow these simple tips. These five steps will help keep your bathrooms looking their best for your family and guests.
